ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A man connected to a 2023 Ross County murder case was returned to the Ross County Jail this week as the court considered his request involving his prison sentence.
According to jail records, Cameron D. Crews was booked into the Ross County Jail at approximately 9:22 a.m. on August 25, 2026. The jail currently lists Crews as being held on a murder charge associated with Ross County Common Pleas Court.
Court records show the underlying case, State of Ohio v. Cameron D. Crews, was filed in July 2023 and involved a charge of murder.
Crews’ return to the county appears to be connected to ongoing proceedings involving his sentence rather than a new murder allegation.
According to the court docket, Crews filed a motion in June seeking to correct his sentencing entry and obtain an earned reduction of his minimum prison term, or alternatively seeking relief through a writ of mandamus.
The State of Ohio filed its response to that request on July 17.
On July 30, the court filed an order for a warrant for removal, and the docket indicates that a warrant was issued to the Ross County Sheriff. A separate entry scheduled the matter for a hearing at 1 p.m. on August 25 and specifically stated that Crews would be conveyed to the court for the proceeding.
Crews was subsequently booked into the Ross County Jail on the morning of the scheduled hearing.
The most recent publicly visible docket entry from August 25 indicates a certificate for a court stenographer fee was filed in connection with the hearing. The screenshots reviewed do not show a ruling on Crews’ request for a reduction or correction of his sentence.
The jail record lists Crews as being held without a bond amount entered at the time the record was viewed.
The jail booking should not be interpreted as evidence that Crews has been accused of a new murder. Based on the available court docket, his return to the Ross County Jail appears connected to proceedings in the existing 2023 case.
