CHILLICOTHE, OH — A woman was arrested Sunday after Chillicothe police say a dispute involving alleged messages between her boyfriend and a neighbor escalated into threats, a stolen Ring doorbell camera and a rock being thrown through a window.
According to a Chillicothe Police Department report, officers were dispatched to a home in the 200 block of Old Eastern Avenue at approximately 9:23 a.m. on August 24 for a reported trespassing incident.
The resident was out of town at the time but told police she believed her neighbor, Mackenzie Daniels, had stolen her Ring doorbell camera and damaged her home.
When officers arrived, they reportedly found the camera’s exterior mount still attached to the home, but the camera itself was missing. Police also discovered a busted front-door window and a large rock lying inside the residence.
According to the report, the dispute allegedly began after Daniels learned that her boyfriend and the neighbor had been exchanging messages.
Police said the neighbor began receiving messages from Daniels at approximately 9:11 a.m. According to the report, the messages allegedly included threats to “beat her ass” and “jump her.”
At approximately 9:20 a.m., police say the home’s Ring camera captured Daniels arriving at the front porch.
According to the report, Daniels was allegedly seen yelling and screaming at the Ring camera before grabbing it and pulling it from its mount. Police said a large stone could also be seen on the porch. A stone was later found inside the residence after apparently going through a window.
Police later contacted Daniels and asked her to meet an officer at the Law Enforcement Complex.
According to the report, Daniels was advised of her Miranda rights and agreed to speak with police. Police say Daniels admitted going to the residence upset after learning about the messages between her boyfriend and the neighbor.
Daniels allegedly admitted ripping the Ring camera from the house and throwing it.
Police also questioned Daniels about the alleged threatening messages. According to the report, Daniels admitted telling the woman she was going to “beat her ass,” but said she did not follow through with the threat.
Daniels denied throwing the stone through the window, according to police.
Daniels was subsequently arrested and taken to the Ross County Jail. The police report lists offenses of menacing, telecommunications harassment, criminal damaging/endangering and theft without consent in connection with the incident.
The allegations contained in the police report are accusations and have not been proven in court. Daniels is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
