A man accused of trespassing at Walgreens in Chillicothe was arrested after police say he repeatedly refused to identify himself and resisted officers’ attempts to take him into custody.

According to a Chillicothe Police Department report, officers responded to Walgreens, 850 N. Bridge St., at approximately 9:50 p.m. on July 17 after receiving a trespass complaint.

When officers arrived, they found a man asleep near the northeast corner of the building, covered by several boxes. Police attempted multiple times to wake him before he eventually sat up.

Officer Christopher Claytor reported that he repeatedly asked the man for his name and date of birth as part of the trespass investigation. According to the report, the man initially remained silent before stating he did not have identification. The officer advised that he was requesting his name—not a physical ID—and warned that failing to provide the information would result in an arrest for obstructing official business.

Police say the man continued refusing to identify himself. He was then placed in handcuffs but allegedly refused to stand, forcing officers to pick him up. As officers escorted him to a cruiser, he allegedly “dead-weighted,” refusing to assist in walking. Once at the cruiser, officers had to lift him into the back seat and reposition him after he used his body weight to prevent being seated properly.

After speaking with a Walgreens employee who requested the man be formally trespassed from the property, officers transported him to the Ross County Jail. He was initially booked as John Doe on charges of obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

Approximately 30 minutes later, Officer Claytor returned to the jail and again asked the man for his identity. This time, the man identified himself as Dionte Allen and provided his date of birth. Police reported they confirmed his identity through LEADS and a Bureau of Motor Vehicles photograph.

Allen was additionally charged with criminal trespass and was issued a court date.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
