ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A Ross County criminal case involving an aggravated drug trafficking charge has reached the sentencing stage after the defendant entered a guilty plea earlier this summer.
According to Ross County Common Pleas Court records, Jordan I. Lyons was indicted on March 13, 2026, in case 26CR000115. The case is assigned to Judge Michael M. Ater and lists the action as aggravated trafficking in drugs.
Court records show a warrant was issued following the indictment and was served by the Ross County Sheriff’s Office on April 8. Lyons was initially held on a $25,000 surety bond, with pretrial supervision requirements including weekly reporting and testing if the bond was posted.
On April 10, court records indicate a $25,000 surety bond was received from a bondsman and Lyons was released from jail.
The case proceeded through pretrial hearings before Lyons ultimately entered a plea of guilty. A judgment entry reflecting the guilty plea was filed July 17, and the court scheduled sentencing for August 28, 2026.
One day before the scheduled sentencing, defense attorney Samuel Harry Shamansky filed a motion seeking a modification of Lyons’ bond and a continuance.
The court reviewed the motion the same day and denied the request to postpone the proceeding, finding the motion to continue was “not well taken,” according to the docket.
Court records show proceedings were held on August 28, with a court stenographer certificate subsequently filed. The screenshots reviewed do not show the final sentencing entry or the sentence imposed, so the ultimate sentence should not yet be reported based on these records alone.
Under Ohio law, aggravated trafficking in drugs encompasses certain conduct involving the sale, distribution, delivery, transportation or preparation for distribution of controlled substances, with the felony level and potential penalties depending on factors including the drug, quantity and circumstances of the offense.
