Waverly Man Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash on State Route 41 in Ross County

A 62-year-old Waverly man was killed Monday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 41 in Paxton Township, Ross County, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Troopers from the Chillicothe Post are investigating the fatal crash that occurred near milepost 2. At about 4:13 p.m. Monday, the Jackson Communication Center received a report of the collision.

Vernon Holbert, 62, of Waverly, was driving a 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo northwest on State Route 41 when he failed to negotiate a curve, according to a news release from the Chillicothe Post. The Monte Carlo drove left of center and struck a 2017 GMC Sierra driven by Kenton Weaver, 29, of Bainbridge.

Holbert died from his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Weaver sustained minor injuries. No other occupants were involved in either vehicle.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers were assisted at the scene by Bainbridge Fire and Paxton Township EMS. State Route 41 south was closed for about three hours while investigators processed the crash scene.

The investigation remains ongoing.
