Unioto’s baseball field is getting a new look, and none of the bill is going to taxpayers.
Union-Scioto Local School District Superintendent Matt Thornsberry announced that the district’s baseball facility improvement project is being paid for entirely through private donations, sponsorships, and fundraising. Thornsberry made a point of saying no taxpayer dollars and no Union-Scioto School District general fund dollars are being used for the project.
Work is expected to begin sometime this week. The project includes turfing the infield, along with several additional improvements to the baseball facility. The district hopes to have everything completed before winter, weather permitting.

In the announcement, Thornsberry thanked the individuals, families, businesses, sponsors, and volunteers who contributed money, volunteered their time, and secured sponsorships to move the project forward. He said the support will benefit Unioto’s student-athletes and the baseball program for years to come.

“We cannot say thank you enough to everyone who has contributed financially, volunteered their time, secured sponsorships, or helped move this project forward,” Thornsberry said. He closed the announcement the way Unioto folks do: “Go Tanks!”
