CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe man was arrested Monday morning after police responded to a trespass complaint on North Bridge Street and allegedly found him intoxicated with an open bottle of liquor.
According to a Chillicothe Police Department report, officers were dispatched to Kroger at 887 N. Bridge Street on September 15. An employee told police that a man dressed in black had left the area and was walking northbound through the parking lot.
Officer Brayden Woodbridge reported locating the man, identified as Ivan Thompson, near Japanese Steakhouse. According to the report, Thompson was walking away while holding an open bottle of Fireball liquor.
Woodbridge reported that Thompson appeared unsteady on his feet and allegedly had an odor of alcohol coming from him, along with bloodshot and glossy eyes. Police said Thompson closed the bottle and placed it in his pocket after the officer made contact with him.
Thompson was arrested and transported to the Ross County Jail on a charge of Disorderly Conduct by Intoxication.
Police noted in the report that Thompson had previously been arrested in the same area for disorderly conduct by intoxication and had three prior convictions for the offense in Chillicothe Municipal Court. According to the report, those prior convictions elevated the latest disorderly conduct charge to a fourth-degree misdemeanor.
Thompson was also served a summons for open container and was given a September 16 court date for both charges.
Police reported photographing the bottle before disposing of it.
Charges are allegations, and Thompson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
