The search for a missing Zaleski man stretched into a fifth day Wednesday, with deputies saying tips have come in but none has been confirmed.
Glenn Stout, 78, was last seen at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, near his home in Zaleski. He is known to frequent the Moonville Rail Trail area, may have dementia, and is not believed to be driving. He is about 6 feet 1 inch tall and 240 pounds. The Vinton County Sheriff’s Office says his clothing has not been confirmed, though he is likely wearing a flannel shirt and jeans.
The search through Monday involved about 70 people, five K-9 teams, nine side-by-side utility vehicles, four drones and two aircraft equipped with infrared cameras, logging roughly eight hours of flight time, the sheriff’s office said. Crews searched trails and roads from south of Zaleski into Hocking and Athens counties, and searched area lakes with boats, sonar and dogs.
Taking part along with the sheriff’s office are the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the Zaleski and McArthur fire departments, Vinton County Parks, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, search and rescue volunteers, and Stout’s friends and family.
A Silver Alert has been issued and a be-on-the-lookout notice has gone to other agencies. Hospitals and homeless shelters within a 75-mile radius have been contacted, and fliers with Stout’s information have been distributed. Deputies say reported sightings placed a man matching his description on State Route 278 and walking west on U.S. 50 from McArthur the day he went missing, and at the Vinton County fairgrounds that afternoon, but none has been confirmed. Stout is confirmed not to be at either of his homes. He left without his vehicle and does not carry a cellphone.
Anyone who sees Stout or has information on where he may be is asked to call the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office at 740-596-5242 or 911.
