Ohio Prison Inmate, Incarcerated For Manslaughter, Facing New Felony Charge in Ross County

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — An Ohio prison inmate serving a lengthy sentence that includes an involuntary manslaughter conviction is now facing a new felony charge in Ross County after allegedly possessing a deadly weapon while incarcerated.

According to Ross County Common Pleas Court records, Miikeelo L. Jackson, 30, was indicted July 10 on one count of possession of a deadly weapon while under detention, a second-degree felony under Ohio Revised Code 2923.131.

Jackson is currently incarcerated at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville, according to Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction records.

Those records show Jackson has been incarcerated since April 2019 following convictions in Franklin County for involuntary manslaughter, aggravated burglary and prohibitions concerning companion animals.

ODRC records list an aggregate sentence of three years for a firearm specification plus 15 years, with an expected release or parole eligibility date of March 26, 2035.

The new Ross County case appears to stem from an alleged incident occurring while Jackson was already under detention. The publicly available court docket does not provide details regarding what type of weapon Jackson is accused of possessing or the circumstances surrounding its discovery.

Court records show a summons on the indictment was served on Jackson in July. The court subsequently ordered that he be conveyed to the Ross County Jail for an August 18 arraignment.

Jackson appeared for that arraignment before Ross County Common Pleas Court Judge Matthew S. Schmidt on Tuesday. His next court appearance is currently scheduled for September 15 at 1 p.m. for a criminal pretrial.

The new case remains open and undisposed.

Jackson is presumed innocent of the new charge unless and until proven guilty in court.
