CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe man was arrested on a domestic violence charge after an argument involving pillows allegedly escalated into a physical altercation between him and his wife.
According to a report from the Chillicothe Police Department, officers were dispatched to a residence on Betty Lane at approximately 11:25 p.m. on October 7, 2026, regarding an active domestic dispute.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim, who reported that she and her husband, identified as Timothy Hiles, were in the process of separating but remained legally married and living together.
The victim told officers that both had been consuming alcoholic beverages that evening. She explained that Timothy had been sleeping on the couch when she grabbed pillows from behind him and threw them behind the couch, waking him.
According to the report, Timothy allegedly became angry, entered a bedroom, and flipped over a mattress. The victim stated that he then began calling her derogatory names before allegedly slapping her on the left side of her face with an open hand.
Officers reported observing slight redness near the victim’s left ear and jawline, along with slight swelling on her left jawline.
When questioned, Timothy provided a different account of the incident. He claimed the victim had taken his pillows and struck him with them while he was sleeping. Timothy showed officers three scratches on his hands, although police noted the marks appeared older and did not resemble fresh injuries.
Timothy admitted to flipping the mattress but denied striking his wife.
According to the report, the victim initially appeared hesitant when officers asked whether she wished to pursue charges. Police explained the domestic violence process and advised her that Timothy would be arrested. Officers also reported that the victim was unable to complete a written statement at the time due to intoxication.
Following the investigation, officers placed Timothy under arrest for domestic violence under Ohio Revised Code 2919.25(A), which prohibits knowingly causing or attempting to cause physical harm to a family or household member.
Timothy was transported to the Ross County Jail, where he was booked on the charge.
The police report also indicated that Timothy had no criminal history listed in the criminal history check conducted by officers.
He was scheduled to appear in Chillicothe Municipal Court on October 8, 2026.
