BIDDEFORD, Maine. One person was killed Monday morning in a shooting involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, Maine officials confirmed.
The incident occurred around 7:20 a.m. near the intersection of Pool Street and Hill Street. Biddeford police described it as a police incident and stated there is no threat to the public.
Maine House Speaker Ryan Fecteau, a Biddeford Democrat, issued a statement on the matter. “A person was killed. ICE was involved. State Police and the Department of Public Safety are now on scene to gather details and would expect the FBI to investigate as well. These are the details that I have at this time. I will provide further updates, as they are relayed to me.”
A witness told the Biddeford Gazette that he was driving by the intersection about 7:20 a.m. when he saw an unmarked Ford Explorer with flashing lights and two officers wearing green ICE vests. He reported that the officers surrounded a white sedan with weapons drawn and that he then heard four shots.
Videos and photos circulating online show at least two men wearing green vests marked “Police” and “Immigration and Customs Enforcement,” according to reports.
Maine State Police and the Department of Public Safety responded to the scene. The FBI is expected to lead the investigation.
This marks the second fatal shooting involving ICE in less than a week. The prior incident occurred in Houston, Texas, where a federal agent fatally shot a man during a traffic stop.
U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, who represents Maine’s 1st District, said her office is working to obtain more information. She urged residents to follow guidance from local authorities.
The identity of the person killed has not been released. The exact circumstances of the shooting, including the nature of the ICE operation, remain under investigation. No additional details have been provided by federal agencies at this time.
