The Ross County Special Olympics Trailblazers took six cornhole teams to the state championship this past weekend, and all six of them came home with a medal.
Three Ross County teams won gold, two took silver and one won bronze at the Special Olympics Ohio State Championship Cornhole Tournament. It was the first year cornhole was a sanctioned Special Olympics Ohio sport, which made this the first state championship in the sport.
Gold: Gale McKee and Christian McCallister; Virginia Taylor and Unified Partner Chris Hiles; Alan Blue and Alex Garza.
Silver: Kelly Spetnagel and Johnathon Jeffers; Tim Malone and Bobby Malone.
Bronze: David Horsley and Renee Dawson.

“Six teams. Six medals. One incredible showing at State,” the Ross County program said. “We are incredibly proud of our athletes and Unified Partner for representing Ross County with heart, determination, and sportsmanship.”

In unified competition, a Unified Partner competes on the same team alongside a Special Olympics athlete. Each cornhole team has two players.

Congratulations to all six Trailblazer teams.
