Two second-degree felony charges, one for felonious assault and one for firing a gun into an occupied home, were filed against a Columbus man whose case was arraigned Wednesday in Franklin County Municipal Court under Ohio State University jurisdiction.
James Lyles, 24, is charged in case 2026 CR A 018572 with felonious assault and with improperly discharging a firearm at or into a habitation or school, according to court records. The arraignment sheet does not describe the incident behind the charges, and no other person is identified in the court record.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Office records show Lyles was booked into the Franklin County Corrections Center at James A. Karnes (booking 20261027054), with the sheriff record listing an arrest date of October 28, 2026, on both counts. Bond had not been set in the case as of his arraignment in courtroom 4D.
Lyles is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. Felony cases filed in municipal court are typically presented to a Franklin County grand jury, which decides whether to issue an indictment and move the case to the Court of Common Pleas.
Heritage Headlines is seeking the police report in this case and will update this story as records are released.
