Manhunt Suspect Booked on Murder Charge in Highland County Fatal Shooting

Cassen Kelso Conaway, 20, of Highland County, was booked into the Highland County Jail on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 12:55 AM on a murder charge.

The Highland County Sheriff’s Office identified Conaway as the suspect in the fatal shooting on Thursday evening, October 22, 2026, in the 13000 block of State Route 72, where a 41-year-old man was found dead. Conaway left the scene before deputies arrived, and a multi-agency search involving K-9 teams, drone units, troopers and neighboring sheriff’s offices ran through the night.
