A volunteer youth soccer coach in Obetz has been arrested and charged with two felony counts related to sexually oriented material involving a minor.
Billy L. Wilburn III, 33, of Columbus, was taken into custody Thursday by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Court records show he faces:
• One count of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor (advertise, sell or distribute material), a second-degree felony under Ohio Revised Code 2907.322(A)(2)
• One count of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor (solicit, receive or purchase material), a fourth-degree felony under Ohio Revised Code 2907.322(A)(5)
According to court documents, authorities allege Wilburn knowingly sent a video through a Kik Messenger account on June 14 that depicted a prepubescent girl engaged in sexual activity with an adult man. A second allegation states he solicited or received material involving a minor in sexual activity.
Wilburn appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court on Friday. A judge set bond at $250,000 and ordered him to stay away from minors and social media. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 25.
The City of Obetz said it immediately suspended Wilburn from all volunteer coaching duties and revoked his access to the youth sports program upon learning of the arrest. City officials noted that volunteer coaches undergo annual background checks and that Wilburn had completed them during his three years with the program. Officials have stated they do not believe the allegations involve children from the Obetz youth program.
These are allegations only. Wilburn has not been convicted of any crime and is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
