CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — S&S Fitness is asking the community for support as the locally owned gym works to recover from significant damage and expenses caused by recent flooding.
In a transparency post shared with members and the community, S&S Fitness said it has returned to business, with the facility cleaned and sanitized and the doors open for those looking to get their workouts in. Behind the scenes, however, the owners say the impact of the flooding has been substantial.
According to the gym, insurance is currently not covering any of the costs, although the owners say they will continue exploring available options.
Cleanup expenses, damaged equipment and supplies, flooring, rentals and repairs have continued to add up as the independently owned gym works to recover.
“We’re doing everything we can to keep moving forward, but for a small, independently owned gym, this is a big hit,” the business wrote.
Rather than simply asking for donations, S&S Fitness is encouraging those who want to help to support the business directly. Anyone considering joining a gym, returning to the facility or purchasing a day pass is encouraged to do so. Gift certificates are also available for those who may want to support the gym now and use them later.
Current members can help in an even simpler way. With moisture still being pulled from the facility, the gym is asking everyone to rerack weights and bars rather than leaving equipment sitting on damp flooring where it could potentially rust or suffer additional damage.
Despite the setback, S&S Fitness says it intends to remain part of the community it has served for years.
“We’ve been part of this community for a long time and we plan to keep fighting for this place,” the business wrote.
For those looking for a way to support a local business following the flooding, sometimes that support can be as simple as walking through the door, getting a workout in and helping S&S Fitness continue moving forward.
