Columbus Man, 36, Charged With Third-Degree Felony Felonious Assault in Franklin County

The two official records in a Columbus man’s new felony case do not describe his charge the same way, and the difference is worth noting on the first day.

Cayce Barnhill, 36, is charged in Franklin County Municipal Court case 2026 CR A 018879 with felonious assault, a third-degree felony under Ohio Revised Code 2903.11(B)(2), according to court records. The court sheet lists the charge with the grade wording “victim lacks mental capacity of significance of HIV.” Franklin County Sheriff’s Office records, under the same case number, list the booking offense as strangulation of a family member or a pregnant victim. Neither record describes the underlying incident, and neither identifies any other person.

Sheriff’s records give his full name as Cayce James Barnhill and show he was arrested October 31, 2026, and booked into the Franklin County Corrections Center at James A. Karnes (booking 20261031032). Bond had not been set as of his arraignment Monday in courtroom 4D.

Barnhill is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. A Franklin County grand jury will decide whether the felony filing is indicted and moves to the Court of Common Pleas.
