CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe man was arrested Saturday evening after police responded to a domestic dispute on Church Street where a woman reported that an argument had become physical.
According to a Chillicothe Police Department report, officers were dispatched to a residence on September 20 after a third-party caller reported that a man was allegedly assaulting a woman and that firearms were inside the residence.
When officers arrived, they made contact with the alleged victim, who police described as visibly upset and crying. Her former boyfriend, 26-year-old Tony Malaki Robert Davis, was also at the residence.
The woman told police that she and Davis had been in a relationship for approximately one year and had lived together since December. She alleged that their relationship had progressively deteriorated and had become physical.
According to the report, the woman alleged that two days before the arrest, Davis jumped into her vehicle while she was inside and slapped her in the face three times. She told officers that incident had not previously been reported.
On September 20, the woman reportedly returned to the residence to collect her belongings. Before going inside, she had arranged a safety plan with a friend, using the word “pineapple” as a signal for the friend to contact law enforcement if she felt unsafe.
Police said the woman alleged Davis began yelling after she entered the residence. While she was gathering clothes, she claimed Davis grabbed her and threw her against a wall, leaving a hole in it. She further alleged that Davis grabbed her arm and flung her from a closet, leaving a red mark.
The woman eventually used the predetermined safe word. According to the report, she further alleged that Davis shoved her near a television stand, causing her to fall onto her knee, punched a lamp and later shoved her a second time.
Officer Shelby Lott reported observing a fresh injury to the woman’s knee that appeared consistent with a carpet burn or abrasion, as well as a red mark on her arm. Damage inside the residence was also documented.
Davis denied that a physical altercation occurred, according to police. He reportedly accused the woman of lying and acknowledged punching a lamp. Police said Davis had a red mark on his right knuckle and also showed officers a photograph of what he described as a bite mark from the previous night. Davis told officers he wanted to pursue charges regarding that alleged incident.
A witness later told police that she heard Davis allegedly threaten the woman before hearing the predetermined safe word. The witness also reportedly recorded video around the time of the incident and told police she intended to provide it to investigators.
Based on the statements provided, visible injuries and damage at the residence, police arrested Davis on a charge of domestic violence — knowingly causing physical harm, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Jail records show Davis was booked into the Ross County Jail shortly after 6 p.m. on September 20. As of September 21, jail records showed him still in custody with no bond amount listed.
The charge is an allegation. Davis is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
