Ross County ODOT jobs close Oct. 8: Surveyor pays up to $55.80 an hour

ODOT is hiring in Southern Ohio. Two Ross County jobs close Oct. 8, and winter CDL routes stay open through Oct. 16.

The Ohio Department of Transportation posted new Southern Ohio openings in a subscriber alert. Two full-time District 9 jobs in Chillicothe are still open. A seasonal CDL driving job covering nine District 10 counties is open longer. A Ross County safety inspector posting has already closed.

Applications go through the state’s Careers.Ohio.Gov site, which ODOT uses for hiring. Finalists should expect a criminal background check. The state is a drug-free workplace.

Transportation Technician 1, Ross County This is office and field work in District 9’s Real Estate section at 650 Eastern Ave., Chillicothe. The job is mostly about keeping utility lines out of the way of road and bridge projects. Staff review plans, estimate relocation costs, write permits and agreements, and work with utility companies, local officials, and property owners. ODOT lists it as a repost, so earlier applicants must apply again.

Requirements:

• 36 months of training or experience in an engineering-related field such as engineering technology, construction management, or civil engineering, and a valid driver’s license

• Or an undergraduate core program in one of those fields, plus 12 months of related training or experience, and a valid driver’s license

• Or 12 months as a Transportation Technical Specialist, and a valid driver’s license

• Or the equivalent of those minimum class qualifications

• Selection includes a scored structured interview under the OCSEA contract

Surveyor 3, Ross County Also based at District 9 headquarters in Chillicothe. This is a licensed surveyor job. The work is managing survey projects, leading a field crew, writing legal descriptions, and signing right-of-way plans. Crews also research deeds, run GPS and total stations, and talk with property owners. Some of the work is outdoors on rough ground.

Pay: $38.01 to $55.80 an hour, full time, classified, OCSEA. Closes Oct. 8, 2026. Same District 9 contact as above.

Requirements:

• Current Ohio professional surveyor registration under Ohio Revised Code 4733.02

• A valid driver’s license

• 12 months as a Surveyor 2, or 12 months in responsible charge of survey projects

• A scored structured interview

Winter seasonal CDL driver, Highway Technician 1, District 10 ODOT District 10 is hiring seasonal highway technicians for the snow and ice season in Athens, Gallia, Hocking, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Noble, Vinton, and Washington counties. The listed base is the Washington County garage at 1650 Greene St., Marietta, with other county locations on the posting. The work is flagging, patching, guardrail and drainage repair, mowing and brush cutting, running dump trucks and loaders, and snow and ice work.
