Portsmouth Woman Charged With Attempted Murder Following Lucasville Stabbing

A Portsmouth woman is being held on a $100,000 bond after being accused of stabbing a Lucasville man in the chest, leavingl him critically injured and requiring multiple surgeries.

According to the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence on Ridge Lane in Lucasville at approximately 5:53 p.m. on June 4 after receiving a report that a man had been stabbed. Detectives were requested to take over the investigation upon arrival.

Investigators identified the victim as 45-year-old Larry William Gill of Lucasville. Authorities said Gill was initially transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center before being airlifted to an out-of-town trauma center. He has since undergone two surgeries for a chest wound and remains in critical condition.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives determined that Gill and his family were staying at the residence when 40-year-old Rheena Nichole Shaw of Portsmouth visited the home earlier that day. Investigators allege that as Shaw was leaving the residence, she stabbed Gill in the chest before fleeing on foot.

Law enforcement later located and detained Shaw without incident.

Jail records show Shaw was booked into the Scioto County Jail on June 4 and is facing one count of attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault.

Shaw appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court on June 11 for arraignment. Court records indicate she is being held on a $100,000 bond while the case proceeds through the court system.

Sheriff David Thoroughman stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities indicated that additional charges may be presented to a future session of the Scioto County Grand Jury.

As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Shaw is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
