CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A Chillicothe man was arrested Sunday evening following an alleged domestic violence incident at a residence on Edgewood Drive, according to a Chillicothe Police Department report.
Police identified the man as Matthew Ryan Keller. According to the report, Officer Lance Canterbury was outside the Chillicothe Police Department on an unrelated call when he was approached by a woman reporting that she had been assaulted by her husband.
The woman told police that Keller had returned home after being gone throughout the day and that she believed he had been drinking alcohol. She reported that an argument began after she confronted him about his behavior.
According to the police narrative, the argument allegedly escalated when Keller grabbed the woman by the throat and pulled her to the floor. She told police Keller grabbed her multiple times and, during one point in the altercation, allegedly grabbed her wrist and twisted it.
Officer Canterbury reported observing and photographing red marks around the woman’s neck. The woman also reportedly complained of pain near the front of her throat and provided police with a written statement.
Police subsequently contacted Keller at the Edgewood Drive residence and placed him under arrest. According to Canterbury’s report, Keller appeared to have difficulty maintaining his balance and admitted that he had been drinking “a bit.”
Keller was transported to the Ross County Jail without incident.
Jail records show Keller was booked on charges listed as domestic violence and strangulation. The police report lists the domestic violence offense under Ohio Revised Code 2919.25 and indicates the case was cleared by arrest.
All allegations are accusations. Keller is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
