Pike County still requires a license for a dog over three months old. What changes on December 1, 2026, is the checkout. The auditor’s office says the county is moving license sales to DocuPet, at pikecountyohio.docupet.com, so a lost dog can be tied to a tag number.
The prices on the auditor’s sheet: a one-year tag is $12, plus a $12 late fee if you miss the window, $24 all in. A three-year tag is $36, and the late add-on is another $36. A permanent tag is $120. A kennel tag for five dogs is $60, with extra kennel tags at $2, and kennel tags stay an in-office purchase. The renewal window is December 1 through January 31. A new puppy has to be licensed at three months. A dog that just moved into the county has 30 days.
In person, tags are at the Pike County Auditor’s Office, 230 Waverly Plaza, Suite 200, Waverly, 45690, (740) 947-4125, weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The auditor also lists Pike Pet Pals and the Pike County Dog Pound as places to buy a household tag. That is the local blend: a county form, a pet shop, and the pound.
A license is not a free pass to let the dog loose. The auditor’s own sheet says it is against the law. It is the paper that gets a dog back from the pound instead of a longer stay.
