The Ohio State Highway Patrol will conduct an OVI checkpoint Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on U.S. 50 at Polk Hollow Road in Ross County.
Troopers from the Chillicothe Post will host the operation in collaboration with the Chillicothe Police Department, Ross County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio Department of Transportation. The checkpoint is funded by federal grant funds.
Officials say the effort aims to deter impaired driving and reduce impaired driver-related injury and fatal crashes. The checkpoint will run in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols.
Anyone who plans to consume alcohol is encouraged to designate a sober driver or make other travel arrangements in advance.
“Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired,” officials said in a release.
Motorists who see dangerous driving are asked to call #677 to connect with the nearest Ohio State Highway Patrol post. Officials note that such a call could save a life.
Drivers traveling through the area Friday evening should allow extra time and expect possible brief delays.
