COLUMBUS — The Ohio State Highway Patrol and multiple local safety partners will ramp up enforcement on Interstate 270 starting Sunday, July 19, through Saturday, July 25, in an effort to curb reckless driving and prevent fatal crashes.
The multi-agency operation involves the Columbus Division of Police, Dublin Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Gahanna Police Department, and the Ohio Department of Transportation. The OSHP Aviation Unit will also support ground efforts.
“Our main goal is to save lives and keep Ohio families safe,” said Captain Eric A. Caudill, Columbus District Commander. “Reckless driving can have life-changing consequences, and through this joint operation, we are sending a clear message that dangerous driving will not be tolerated.”
Franklin County has recorded the highest number of fatal crashes in Ohio from 2021 to 2025, with 531 incidents. Statewide, unsafe speed contributed to 16 percent of fatal crashes during that period.
This year through July 9, troopers responded to 786 crashes on I-270, including 144 related to unsafe speed. Officials plan to increase visibility and enforce traffic laws in the highest-crash areas of the loop.

The initiative aligns with broader Ohio roadway safety priorities and comes as part of ongoing efforts to address trends in serious crashes in the central Ohio region.
