A 62-year-old Grove City man died Monday morning after the dump truck he was driving overturned and blocked both southbound lanes of U.S. Route 23 in Harrison Township, Pickaway County, according to the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Matthew O. Hafey said the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call at 7:26 a.m. July 27, 2026, reporting a traffic crash on US 23 southbound just south of Weigand Road. Callers reported a dump truck overturned and blocking both lanes.
Officers from the South Bloomfield Police Department arrived first. Deputies from the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office followed shortly after, along with the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Responders located a 2015 Kenworth dump truck owned by Decker Construction that had overturned onto its side, blocking both southbound lanes just south of Weigand Road.
Investigators determined the truck was traveling southbound on US 23 when it appeared to veer off the left side of the roadway. The driver overcorrected, then overcorrected again, sending the truck toward the east side of the road. The rear of the truck fishtailed, and the vehicle ended up on its right side. The driver was ejected and partially pinned underneath the truck.
The driver was identified as 62-year-old Michael E. Moyer of Grove City, Ohio. Harrison Township Fire and EMS arrived and pronounced Moyer deceased at 7:39 a.m.
An early report from the Columbus Dispatch confirmed the single-vehicle dump truck crash near Weigand Road north of South Bloomfield around 7:23 a.m. and noted that U.S. 23 was closed in both directions. Further details on injuries were not available at that time.
Sheriff Hafey thanked Harrison Township Fire and EMS, South Bloomfield Police Department, Commercial Point Police Department, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Pickaway County Coroner Dr. Seth Yates, Scioto Township Fire and EMS, and the Ohio Department of Transportation for their assistance.
The crash remains under investigation by the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office. No additional details on the cause or contributing factors have been released.
