Suspect arrested after public tips in Truro Township business assault
TRURO TOWNSHIP, Ohio — The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office has identified and arrested a suspect in an early-morning assault at a business on Chatterton Road after releasing video and asking the public for help.
On Sunday, August 23, 2026, at about 7 a.m., an unknown man entered the business and became aggressive with a female attendant, according to the sheriff’s office. After being told to leave, he refused and continued disruptive behavior. When the attendant called 911, the man knocked items from the counter and struck her cell phone from her hand. He then pushed her to the floor and punched her in the face before leaving on foot.
The office posted video of the incident on social media, including X and Instagram, and asked anyone who recognized the man to contact the Communications Center at (614) 525-3333. Anonymous tips were accepted.
On Tuesday, August 25, the sheriff’s office announced that public information led to an identification and arrest. 30-year-old Yahannes Aklog is charged with assault, theft, criminal mischief and criminal trespass. The office thanked residents who shared the post and provided tips.
The original press release listed the incident as involving assault, criminal trespass and criminal mischief. In Ohio, assault under Revised Code 2903.13 generally involves knowingly causing or attempting to cause physical harm and is typically a first-degree misdemeanor, though circumstances can elevate it. Criminal trespass (2911.21) and criminal mischief (2909.07) are also commonly charged as misdemeanors. Theft was added in the charging announcement. All charges remain allegations. Aklog is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
The sheriff’s office did not release the name of the business or further details about the victim’s condition. Chatterton Road runs through Truro Township in southeastern Franklin County, an area that has seen prior focused enforcement operations by deputies.
