A proposed new agreement governing the Franklin Park Conservatory is going back to the drawing board.
The Franklin County Board of Commissioners declined on Oct. 6 to approve Resolution 0662-26, a Second Amended and Restated Franklin Park Conservatory Joint Recreation District Agreement with the City of Columbus.
As outlined to the board, the amendment would have extended the district’s term from 2057 to 2076, expanded the district board from 18 to 25 seats while the county kept its six appointees, and cut the City of Columbus’s annual payment from $500,000 to $250,000.
The district also expects to use about $4.72 million in historic preservation tax credits for planned capital improvements, the board was told.
Commissioners raised concerns about the larger board and the reduced city funding, and the resolution did not pass. The existing agreement between the county and the city stays in place, and a revised agreement would have to come back before the board.
