Columbus SWAT Hunts ‘Machete Mike’ After Reports of Shots Fired on South High Street

Columbus, Ohio — Columbus police responded Saturday afternoon to reports of shots fired near a local auto parts store and an encampment along South High Street.

Radio traffic placed the initial calls in the area of 3201 S High St. Officers and emergency crews arrived to find a scene that quickly escalated. A suspect referred to as “Machete Mike” was described as a bald, tall man last seen running southbound toward storage units. He was reported armed with a revolver.

Some radio communications referenced an officer-involved shooting. The suspect fled into a wooded area. SWAT team members were called in to assist with the search and establish a perimeter.

Emergency medical services staged nearby as officers checked tents and surrounding areas for the suspect. No injuries have been confirmed at this time.

The situation remains active. Police continue to search the woods and nearby properties while additional units secure the scene.
