CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — Two women from Cincinnati are facing charges after Chillicothe police say they traveled to the city and were caught stealing nearly $500 worth of merchandise from TJ Maxx on North Bridge Street.
According to a Chillicothe Police Department report, officers were dispatched to the store on October 3 for a reported theft. Police identified the suspects as 35-year-old Ahkeela B. McCray and 23-year-old Danaisha Inira Icyss St. Clair, both of Cincinnati.
A loss prevention employee told police she had been watching the women as they allegedly went to different clothing racks, selected merchandise and concealed items underneath their shirts. According to the report, both women then passed all points of sale and began walking out the front door.
Police said one woman returned the merchandise she had allegedly taken after being confronted, while the other allegedly ran toward their vehicle.
Officers ultimately recovered merchandise associated with both women. The report lists $247.90 worth of merchandise recovered from McCray and $246.89 from St. Clair, for a combined total of $494.79.
Both Cincinnati women were arrested and transported to the Ross County Jail. The police report states they were charged with theft and criminal trespass and advised that they would be arrested for criminal trespass if they returned to the store.
Chillicothe Municipal Court records show separate misdemeanor theft cases have since been filed against McCray and St. Clair under Ohio Revised Code 2913.02. The theft charges are listed as first-degree misdemeanors, with both cases currently pending.
Both women are scheduled to appear in court on November 4 at 1 p.m.
The charges are allegations, and both defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
