A Chillicothe man is facing multiple charges after Chillicothe Police officers responded to a reported domestic dispute Monday afternoon on Rogers Parkway.
According to a report filed by Officer Shane Daubenmire, officers were dispatched to a residence in the 190 block of Rogers Parkway around 12:45 p.m. on July 20 after a third party reported that a woman had allegedly been assaulted. The caller reportedly advised that the woman had sent her daughter a message stating she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, George Wilburn, along with a photograph showing injuries to her face and head. Dispatch also advised responding officers that Wilburn had an active felony warrant through the Ross County Common Pleas Court.
Officer Daubenmire, along with Officer Christopher McGowan, Officer Casey Cox, Officer Christopher Claytor, and Officer Monique Lee, responded to the residence. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the alleged victim, who was observed with blood on her nose, facial injuries, and scratches near her mouth. The woman told officers Wilburn had grabbed her by the mouth after the two became involved in an argument.
With the woman’s permission, officers entered the residence and located Wilburn upstairs. He was taken into custody without incident on the outstanding Ross County warrant before Officer Daubenmire interviewed him regarding the domestic violence allegations.
According to the report, Wilburn stated the couple had argued over making dinner and claimed the alleged victim struck him on the left side of his face. He told Officer Daubenmire he placed his hand over her mouth in an attempt to stop her from yelling. Officers reported they did not observe any visible injuries on Wilburn.
The alleged victim later told Officer Daubenmire that Wilburn placed his hand over her mouth and face during the argument, causing the injuries that left her bleeding. She denied striking him first.
An elderly witness inside the home, identified in the report as Wilburn’s mother, told Officer Daubenmire she witnessed part of the altercation and observed Wilburn place his hand over the alleged victim’s mouth before the alleged victim struck him.
Officer Daubenmire photographed the alleged victim’s injuries, obtained a written statement, and advised her of the process for obtaining a protection order.
During the investigation, officers also confirmed Wilburn was wanted on a probation violation warrant from Monroe County, Michigan, in addition to an active Ross County Common Pleas warrant for aggravated possession of drugs.
Wilburn was transported to the Ross County Jail and charged with:
- Domestic Violence (M1)
- Assault (M1)
- Fugitive from Justice (F5)
He was also served with the outstanding Ross County warrant for Aggravated Possession of Drugs (F5).
Jail records show Wilburn is being held in the Ross County Jail with a $5,000 bond on the assault charge, no bond on the domestic violence charge, and no bond on the fugitive from justice charge.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Wilburn is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
