JEFFERSONVILLE, Ohio — A holiday tradition in Jefferson Township is coming to an end. The Jefferson Township Fire Department announced in a statement this week that it is ending its annual Christmas tree sale after more than 40 years.
The department said a drop in sales made the decision necessary. “Due to the lack of sales the last couple of years, we have made the difficult decision to end our annual Christmas tree sale,” the department said.
For generations of township families, a stop at the fire station lot to pick out a tree was part of the run-up to Christmas. The department thanked residents for their support over the last 40-plus years.
Residents answered with an outpouring of thanks of their own. The announcement drew well over 100 reactions and a long string of comments, with many people saying the tree sale had been a family tradition in their homes. Others said that while they were sad to see it go, they understood the decision.
