An unusual felony topped the Whitehall cases at Friday’s arraignments in Franklin County Municipal Court: impersonating a police officer in order to commit a felony.
Elijah Bland, 27, of Columbus, is charged in case 2026 CR A 018688 with impersonating a police officer or private policeman, a third-degree felony at the grade alleging the impersonation was done to commit a felony, and in case 2026 CR A 018689 with improperly handling a firearm in a motor vehicle, a fifth-degree felony, according to court records. The court record does not describe what Bland is accused of doing, where, or toward whom. The sheriff’s booking record lists the impersonation case under a misdemeanor booking code (26CRB18688); the court arraignment sheet, which controls the charge and its grade, lists it as the felony case above.
Franklin County Sheriff’s Office records show Bland was arrested October 29, 2026, and booked at James A. Karnes (booking 20261029008), with bond not set on either case at his courtroom 4D arraignment.
Bland is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. A Franklin County grand jury will review the felony filings.
