Shakers Public House in Worthington is hiring for every position on its crew as it gets ready to open its doors again, about a month after a small kitchen fire and a long sprinkler soak shut the place down.
The restaurant, at 480 E. Wilson Bridge Road, posted this week that it “can’t wait to open our doors again to you Worthington” and that it is looking to hire all positions. Anyone who wants to join the crew can send a resume to jsrshakersph@outlook.com.
The closure started the weekend of September 26 and 27, when a pile of kitchen towels spontaneously combusted, according to owner Spencer Campbell. The fire itself was small and nobody was hurt. The real damage came from the sprinkler system, which ran for hours without alerting the fire department because the building’s water pressure was too low to set off the alarm. By the time it stopped, water had filled the restaurant’s eight fryers and spread grease across the floor and into neighboring units.
The restaurant’s website still carries a “temporarily closed, cleanup in progress” banner and says the team is looking forward to a “Grand Re-Re-Opening Celebration,” hopefully in late October. No exact reopening date has been announced.
If a fire comeback sounds familiar for Shakers, it should. The Worthington restaurant only exists because the original Shakers, on Georgesville Road on the West Side, burned down on September 2, 2023. That building was a total loss. Owners Spencer and Caitlin Campbell reopened in the much larger Worthington space, the former J&D’s Place, on March 20, 2024.
Shakers is a family friendly sports pub best known for its wings, with 22 sauces and dry rubs, plus burgers, sandwiches and one of the bigger patios around. When it reopens, its listed hours are 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily, with the kitchen open until midnight.
