Pickaway County commissioners voted on Tuesday, October 6 to amend the county’s Enterprise Zone Agreement with Sofidel America Corporation and to keep the county’s current tax incentives in place.
Sofidel is the Circleville tissue maker, one of the county’s largest employers. Enterprise zone agreements are a common tool in Ohio. In plain terms, a county offers a break on some taxes for a set period, and in return a company agrees to invest in a plant and create or keep jobs in the community.
By amending the agreement, commissioners kept that arrangement in place under updated terms. The minutes from the October 6 meeting do not list the specific new terms in what was released, so the details of what changed were not spelled out in the meeting record.
At the same meeting, commissioners also voted to continue all current tax incentives in the county. That vote followed a recommendation from the Tax Incentive Review Council, which reviewed the incentives on August 31.
The council review is the regular check on whether companies are meeting the jobs and investment promises tied to their incentives. Continuing the incentives means, for now, no change for the businesses and projects already covered.
