CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A 62-year-old Texas man was arrested early Saturday morning, October 17, after Chillicothe Police responded to complaints of disorderly behavior at the Quality Inn on North Plaza Boulevard.
According to a Chillicothe Police Department report, Troy Wyman Helling was staying in Room 202 when hotel management began receiving complaints of screaming, yelling, and bottles breaking. Employees reportedly attempted to contact Helling several times before requesting police assistance.
Officers arrived and encountered Helling, who reportedly appeared intoxicated and initially claimed he had been sleeping. Hotel management requested that he leave the property due to the repeated disturbances.
After Helling gathered his belongings, officers inspected the room and discovered extensive damage, including a damaged television, broken lamps, a damaged bathroom sink, a broken clock, and three holes in the drywall.
According to the report, Helling repeatedly told officers that money was not an issue and that he could pay for the damage. One officer also documented Helling allegedly stating that he was not concerned about paying because he was wealthy.
During the investigation, Helling reportedly made statements suggesting he had considered doing something to the room and claimed he would not be alive if he had followed through.
Hotel management estimated the damage exceeded $1,000 and requested criminal charges.
Helling was subsequently arrested for vandalism under Ohio Revised Code 2909.05 and transported to the Ross County Jail.
All individuals accused of crimes are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
