Pike County Crews Meet Black Hawk Pilots Ahead of Terrain Training

The session covered how ground crews should move around the aircraft, set up landing zones, and work a hoist or landing extraction so everyone stays safe when these helicopters show up for a real call. Photos from the meeting show crews talking with the pilots on the flight line.

Pike County is hosting UH-60 Black Hawk terrain training for the next 30 days. That means low-level and contour flying over local terrain so crews can practice operating in the kind of country they would see on an actual mission. Expect to hear the helicopters they are loud.

This kind of joint work is useful. Local responders learn the aircraft’s hazards and capabilities; the aircrews get familiar with the people and landing sites they may need in a rescue, medevac, or disaster. Good coordination on a training day makes a difference when it counts.
