CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — A 67-year-old Chillicothe woman was arrested Wednesday after police said they responded to multiple calls from her throughout the day, including claims involving a neighbor, a handgun and reported gunfire.
According to Chillicothe Police Department reports, officers first responded to the 1000 block of Columbus Street around 8:47 a.m. on September 3 after Mary M. Gibson reported problems involving another resident of the building.
Officer Matthew Shipley wrote that Gibson claimed the man had been outside her door and in the hallway and alleged that a neighbor across the hall had a gun and laptop. Police spoke with the man, who reportedly said he had not entered the building that day and had remained outside.
Shipley wrote that Gibson had previously made false calls for service and warned her that another false claim could result in her arrest. According to the report, after the officer walked away, Gibson allegedly told other officers that the neighbor across the hall had been shooting a gun.
Police were called back to the same address around 1:37 p.m. Officer Christopher Claytor wrote that Gibson made statements about someone who was not on the property at the time. Officers initially transported her to Adena Regional Medical Center after she agreed to go to the hospital.
Approximately two hours later, according to Claytor’s report, police received another call from Gibson alleging someone was in the hallway shooting a handgun. Claytor wrote that it was the third time officers had been there and that the calls involved similar claims.
Gibson was then transported to the Ross County Jail and booked on a charge of making false alarms to a law enforcement agency, a first-degree misdemeanor under Ohio Revised Code 2917.32(A)(3).
Online jail records also list an obstructing official business charge and show Gibson was being held on 10-percent bonds of $1,000 on each listed charge.
As with all criminal cases, the charges are allegations, and Gibson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
