A Bainbridge man is facing five felony charges after a Ross County grand jury returned an indictment stemming from a reported shooting earlier this month.
Phillip L. Dragston II, 43, remains incarcerated in the Ross County Jail after being indicted on five counts of Felonious Assault, all second-degree felonies under Ohio Revised Code 2903.11.
According to court records, the case was filed in Ross County Common Pleas Court on June 24 and formally indicted on June 26 under case number 26CR000268. The matter has been assigned to Judge Matthew S. Schmidt.
The charges stem from a June 8 incident on Free Lane in Bainbridge. Law enforcement responded to the area after receiving reports of a shooting involving a neighboring resident. Authorities ultimately took Dragston into custody without further incident.
Court filings indicate the case was initially filed in municipal court before being bound over to the Ross County Grand Jury. Docket entries show that after the indictment was returned, prosecutors requested the issuance of a warrant upon indictment, and a warrant was subsequently issued to the Ross County Sheriff’s Office.
Jail records show Dragston is being held on a $250,000 cash or surety bond. While the original jail booking reflected a single felonious assault charge, the grand jury ultimately returned an indictment containing five separate counts of felonious assault.
The case remains pending, and no disposition has been entered.
If convicted, each second-degree felony count carries the potential for significant prison time under Ohio law.
All charges are allegations, and Dragston is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
