Ohio’s JD Vance Warns Iran Is Trying to Rebuild Nuclear Program Ahead of Geneva Talks

Vice President JD Vance, Ohio’s former senator from Middletown, issued a strong warning today about Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Speaking to reporters and in a Fox News interview, Vance said U.S. intelligence has evidence that Iran is attempting to rebuild its nuclear program following U.S.-led strikes on key facilities last June.

“The principle is very simple: Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon,” Vance told reporters. He added that if Iran tries to rebuild, “that causes problems for us. In fact, we’ve seen evidence that they have tried to do exactly that.”

Vance emphasized diplomacy as the preferred path but noted President Trump has other tools available, including military options, if needed. “You can’t let the craziest and worst regime in the world have nuclear weapons,” he said on Fox News.

The comments follow President Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday, where he accused Iran of restarting its nuclear efforts and pursuing long-range missiles. They come one day before U.S. and Iranian delegations meet in Geneva for talks aimed at curbing Tehran’s nuclear activities.

Iran denies pursuing nuclear weapons, claiming its program is peaceful, and has pushed back against U.S. claims.

For south central Ohio residents, Vance’s statements carry local weight. As a native of the region and author of Hillbilly Elegy, he remains a prominent voice for Ohio communities. Escalation could affect energy prices, manufacturing in places like Chillicothe and Portsmouth, and families connected to nearby military installations.

Negotiations in Geneva involve U.S. demands for zero enrichment and curbs on missiles and proxies, while Iran seeks sanctions relief. With U.S. carrier groups in the region, the stakes remain high.
