A police pursuit ended in a crash Wednesday morning near East Main Street and the U.S. 23/35 interchange in Chillicothe, and a man was taken into custody early Wednesday afternoon after a foot chase through downtown.
The crash was reported at about 9:47 a.m. Dispatch traffic indicated the fleeing vehicle struck three police cruisers before the driver was taken into custody. A passenger ran from the vehicle into nearby woods, and dispatchers said he was believed to still have a weapon. No injuries to officers were reported in the dispatch traffic.
Early Wednesday afternoon, officers converged on the downtown area and set up a perimeter around Water and Second streets. Dispatch traffic described the man running through backyards and alleys before the chase ended near North Rose and East Second streets, where officers reported recovering a gun. Medics were called to check the man after the arrest.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the man captured downtown is the passenger who ran from the crash. No agency had released any names or charges as of Wednesday afternoon, and no official update had been released as of Thursday morning.
