Pickaway County, Ohio — A 16-year-old has been taken into custody following a stabbing incident that began at a residence and ended with a victim seeking help at Teays Valley High School.
According to the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were dispatched around 8:55 a.m. on April 8, 2026, after a 911 caller reported that his brother had stabbed another individual with a pocketknife. Deputies and Ashville Police responded to a residence on Ashton Woods Drive in Ashville.
Around the same time, a School Resource Officer at Teays Valley High School requested emergency medical assistance after a stabbing victim arrived in the school lobby. Harrison Township Fire and EMS transported the 14-year-old victim to Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Investigators say the incident stemmed from a struggle inside the Ashton Woods Drive residence between the 16-year-old suspect, identified as Daniel L. Hazard, and the 14-year-old victim. The victim was reportedly stabbed multiple times before managing to escape.
The victim, along with three witnesses, fled the residence and ran to the nearby high school, where they located the School Resource Officer.
Officers arriving at the residence took Hazard into custody without incident after he exited the home voluntarily.
Hazard was transported to the Multi-County Juvenile Detention Center in Lancaster and charged with Felonious Assault, a second-degree felony if committed by an adult.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing
