COLUMBUS, Ohio — Troopers wrote a lot of tickets on Interstate 70 this weekend. The Ohio State Highway Patrol joined the 6-State Trooper Project for a high-visibility enforcement push along I-70 from Friday, October 9 through Sunday, October 11, and Ohio’s share of the numbers is eye-catching.
In Ohio alone, troopers issued 573 speeding citations, wrote 27 safety belt citations, and made 11 impaired driving arrests during the three-day effort.
Across the three participating states, Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania, the totals came to 821 speeding citations, 37 safety belt citations, and 25 impaired driving arrests. The project’s other member states, Kentucky, Michigan, and West Virginia, sat this one out because I-70 does not pass through them.
The 6-State Trooper Project is a multi-state partnership built around highway safety, criminal patrol, and information sharing. I-70 is one of the heaviest traveled corridors in Ohio, cutting across Columbus and Franklin County on its way between Indiana and Pennsylvania.
The patrol announced the results Wednesday, October 14, in a release from Columbus.
