OHIO OFFICER KILLED IN MORROW COUNTY CRASH; INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY

An Ohio police officer was killed Monday morning in a crash in Morrow County, according to reports from state officials.

The crash occurred around 5:32 a.m. on U.S. Route 42 near mile post 10 in Gilead Township, prompting an investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

According to investigators, a 2010 Toyota RAV4 traveling eastbound left the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, and crossed left of center. The vehicle was then struck by a 2013 Ford F-150 traveling westbound.

The driver of the Toyota, identified as 20-year-old Summer Kennard of Cardington, was transported to Morrow County Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Authorities confirmed that Kennard was a part-time officer with the Bellville Police Department, where she had served since 2024.

The driver of the Ford, a 63-year-old man from Galion, was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

Bellville Police Department officials confirmed the loss in a statement, expressing condolences to Kennard’s family, friends, and fellow officers.

The crash remains under investigation
