ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — A man known by the nickname “Money,” who is currently serving a prison sentence for reckless homicide and felonious assault, is now facing an additional felony charge in Ross County.
According to public court records, Eric L. Smithross, 27, was indicted in Ross County Common Pleas Court on a charge of conveying prohibited items into a detention facility. The case was filed on October 9, 2026, and remains open.
Smithross was booked into the Ross County Jail on October 28, 2026, in connection with the new charge, which jail booking information identifies as illegal conveyance of drugs of abuse.
Records from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction show that Smithross has been incarcerated since March 11, 2021, and is housed at Ross Correctional Institution.
His criminal history includes a third-degree felony conviction for reckless homicide in Franklin County, for which he received a three-year prison sentence along with a three-year firearm specification. He also received a prison sentence for second-degree felony felonious assault in a separate Franklin County case.
Additional convictions include fifth-degree felony drug possession offenses in Franklin and Athens counties.
Court records dated October 29 indicate that Smithross is expected to remain in the custody of the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction until 2030.
The court has also ordered Smithross to have no contact with co-defendant Imani Wilson. The available records do not specify the circumstances surrounding the alleged conveyance offense.
Judge Matthew S. Schmidt is presiding over the new case. Smithross is scheduled to appear for a pretrial conference on November 25, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
The Ohio Public Defender has been appointed to represent Smithross.
The new charge remains pending, and Smithross is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
