McARTHUR, Ohio (August 22, 2026) – A Vinton County grand jury has indicted Joshua David Saunders, 23, of South Bloomingville, on four felony charges stemming from a child sex abuse investigation, officials announced Friday.
Saunders faces three counts of rape, each a first-degree felony, and one count of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony. He was arrested Friday without incident by the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office, the Ross County Sheriff’s Office, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Vinton County jail records list Saunders, Jail ID 53357, as booked on August 21, 2026, by the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office. The roster shows the same four charges and lists total bail as $0.00. A booking photo was released as part of the public jail information.
The investigation began in December 2025. At the request of the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office, BCI’s Special Victims Unit opened a probe into allegations of sexual abuse involving two children. That work led to the grand jury’s action against Saunders.
The case is being prosecuted by the Vinton County Prosecutor’s Office with assistance from the Highland County Prosecutor’s Office and the Ohio Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Section. Vinton County Prosecutor William Archer, Vinton County Sheriff Ryan Cain, and Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson announced the indictment.
“These indictments are the latest developments in the ongoing investigations, but our work is far from complete,” Wilson said. “BCI is actively investigating these cases alongside the Vinton County Sheriff’s Office, and my office will continue to support Prosecuting Attorney William Archer as the legal process continues.”
Indictments are criminal allegations. Saunders is presumed innocent unless proved guilty in a court of law. No additional details about the alleged victims or specific incidents have been released by authorities.
