GALLIA COUNTY, OH — Deputies with the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office recently participated in hands-on defensive tactics training aimed at improving subject control and officer safety in real-world encounters.
The training was conducted inside the wrestling room at Gallia Academy High School and focused on practical techniques deputies may need to use during daily interactions in the field.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, sessions like these are critical to ensuring deputies remain prepared to safely and effectively handle unpredictable situations.
Instruction for the training was provided by Ohio State Highway Patrol Defensive Tactics Academy Instructor Sgt. Phil Rutherford, who led the course at no cost to the agency.
The Sheriff’s Office also expressed appreciation to Gallia Academy High School, including Athletic Director Adam Clark, for allowing use of the facility, as well as Ohio Department of Public Safety Director Andy Wilson for supporting the opportunity locally.
Officials emphasized that continued training and strong partnerships between agencies remain a key component in maintaining public safety across Gallia County.
