SCIOTO COUNTY, Ohio — A Euclid man is facing multiple felony charges after authorities say he assaulted two correctional officers inside the Scioto County Jail, leaving one officer unconscious.
According to Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman, the incident occurred at approximately 6:56 p.m. on September 26. A correctional officer was conducting rounds when an inmate, identified as Dimitrious Anglen, 30, of Euclid, allegedly attacked the officer and struck him multiple times in the face.
Authorities allege that during the assault, Anglen searched the officer’s pockets and took items from him without permission.
A second correctional officer responded to assist and was also allegedly attacked. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Anglen struck the second officer and placed his forearm across the officer’s throat until the officer lost consciousness.
Both correctional officers were transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment. One was later transferred to Grant Medical Center for additional treatment.
Anglen was charged with one count of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony; two counts of felonious assault, second-degree felonies; and one count of strangulation, a second-degree felony.
According to the release, Anglen was being held without bond and was scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Monday, September 28.
Sheriff Thoroughman said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges could later be presented to a Scioto County grand jury.
The charges are allegations. Anglen is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
