COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus man was arraigned Wednesday on the most serious new felony case of the day in Franklin County: nine counts that include a home burglary where someone was hurt, six separate assault charges, and shots fired into an occupied home.
David McPheters, 24, was booked into the Franklin County jail on Tuesday, October 13, and appeared Wednesday in Franklin County Municipal Court. The new case charges him with first-degree felony aggravated burglary alleging physical harm, six second-degree felony counts of felonious assault, a second-degree felony count of firing a gun into an occupied structure, and a third-degree felony count of having a weapon while legally barred from having one.
McPheters also appeared the same morning on two older misdemeanor cases involving domestic violence and assault charges.
Court records do not yet say what incident the felony charges grew out of, and Columbus police have not released details of the underlying case. Felony charges filed in municipal court move next toward a preliminary hearing or a grand jury.
