An underage drinking incident involving alleged threats and a reported firearm led to an arrest and a heavy police response early May 10 in Chillicothe.
According to a report from the Chillicothe Police Department, officers were dispatched around 2:01 a.m. to the 400 block of Yoctangee Parkway in reference to a disorderly situation occurring behind a residence.
Dispatch reportedly advised responding officers that threats of harm had been made and that a firearm was involved.
Officer Nate Crabtree stated in the report that as he approached the rear of the residence, he heard screaming and yelling coming from the backyard area. Officers reportedly entered through an open fence gate and observed two males fighting, with one male straddling the other on the ground.
According to police, officers ordered the individuals to stop and attempted to separate them. Crabtree stated one male initially failed to comply with commands before being detained with assistance from other responding officers.
Police said both individuals showed signs of alcohol consumption.
A neighbor identified as Kaycie Depugh reportedly told officers she heard a dispute occurring behind the residence and went outside to investigate. Depugh stated one of the males allegedly threatened to kill her before attempting to jump a fence toward her location. The report states Depugh drew a firearm in fear for her safety before retreating back to her residence and contacting police.
Officer Christian Seymour documented that Depugh reported hearing a male yelling phrases including “I’ll fucking kill you” during the disturbance.
Police said Michael Ashmore, 18, was arrested and transported to the Ross County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct by intoxication and underage consumption of alcohol.
A 17-year-old male was also reportedly found to have consumed alcohol and was released to a sober family member. Police stated a recommendation for an underage consumption charge would be forwarded to juvenile court.
The incident remains documented under Chillicothe Police case PD-P2601840.
As with all criminal cases, charges are allegations, and all parties are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
