CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — An 18-year-old Chillicothe man is in the Ross County Jail after police say he and two others chased a 17-year-old through alleys to the flood wall on East Water Street on Tuesday afternoon, fought him and took his cell phone.

QUICK FACTS

  • Arrested by: Chillicothe Police Department
  • Charges: assault and complicity to robbery
  • Bond: held without bond
  • Next court date: Wednesday, Oct. 21, 9 a.m., Chillicothe Municipal Court

Police were called to 627 E. Water St. at about 5:18 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, for a disturbance, according to the Chillicothe Police Department report. The 17-year-old told officers the group had harassed him on Scioto Street, followed him in a silver Ford Mustang and chased him on foot to the flood wall near Watt Street, where they caught up to him.

He told police Raiden Whitlock punched him in the face three times. He said that during the fight he handed his jacket and cell phone to one of the others, and the phone was never given back. Officers noted redness under both of the teen’s eyes and on his left cheek and photographed his injuries.

The teen also told police he saw what he believed was the handle of a handgun in Whitlock’s pants pocket during the fight. He said the gun was never pulled out or mentioned.

An officer found Whitlock near Poplar Street. Police say Whitlock told them the fight was mutual, that he did not steal anything, and that the group had followed the teen in a car driven by Caleb Rhoades, 23. The teen’s jacket was found at the flood wall and returned to him. The phone, a Motorola Moto G Play valued at $33, was not recovered.

Police say they will ask the Chillicothe Municipal Court for a warrant for Rhoades on a charge of complicity to robbery, and will ask the juvenile prosecutor’s office to charge a 16-year-old with robbery. Neither had been arrested when the report was written. Heritage Headlines does not name juveniles.

Whitlock is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
